Recession Proof Living

Your money, your life

A Recession Thanksgiving

Some of us are approaching this Thanksgiving holiday with a heavy heart. The economy seems to be getting worse. About 1.2 million people have lost their jobs this year. The predidential election, while inspiring to many, is a huge disappointment to those who supported McCain and Palin. So why be thankful? Here is my list of things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Your Family. Do you love and support each other? Do you have someone to eat Thanksgiving Dinner with? If you do, thank God for them, and then HUG them. Then tell them how thankful you are for them all the time, not just at Thanksgiving.

Your Job. If you have a job this Thanksgiving, be thankful you still have a source of income. Many of your fellow Americans don’t. Even if you have a grouchy boss or annoying coworkers, you still have a means of supporting your household. It’s OK to look for other opportunities if you are miserable at your job, but in the meantime, be thankful for what you have.

Your Country. If you were born in America, take a second look at the opportunities you have. The economy may stink, but I’ll bet you still have food on the table. You have civil liberties that are the envy of most of the world. You have a government that responds to the people, and if you don’t like the way things are going, you get to cast your vote to change things. Be thankful.

Your Best Friend, Jesus. Even if you can’t be thankful for your family, job or country, you can still have a thankful heart this Thanksgiving. You are not alone in the world. Jesus Christ taught us a better way to live and deal with the world around us. He died and came back to life again so that we can have a fresh start at life. He wants to be your best friend. If you haven’t met him yet, why not get acquainted now?

  1. Unfortunately it will NOT be a recession, but rather a deep DEPRESSION, read why Washington cannot stop a DEPRESSION.

  2. I checked out your blog and am interested in hearing how you came to this conclusion. You mention a possible GM bankruptcy; GM will not cease to exist even if it does go bankrupt–it will simply be relieved from its debts. How does this send us into a Depression?

  3. Why must religion play a part regarding being recession proof? I am not looking for god but am looking for any useful and helpful ways to help my business during these very tough economic times. I do understand that faith in ones capabilities is necessary but god didn’t cause this mess george bush did. You did have some food for thought in reexamnining my clients/database to see who to concentrate on and I appreciate that reminder…but in a how to stay afloat blog I’m looking for answers or tips not religious advocacy

  4. Greetings, 4ed words08! Welcome to Recession Proof Living.

The purpose for this blog is to cover a variety of topics to help people get through tough economic times. Most of my tips will focus on individuals because that is my primary area of expertise. I will try to write another business-related post soon, so stick around and see if it’s helpful!

You are quite right that people can make smart financial decisions no matter what religion they are. I wrote my Thanksgiving post as an encouragement for folks to step back from the economic mess and think about what is joyful and beautiful in life. In my life that includes Jesus.

I hope your life is full of beauty and joy this week. Thank you for commenting, and come back soon.
